How to be at the right place at the right time

A few years ago, I dragged myself to an early morning networking meeting that I don’t normally attend. As I was getting out of bed, I contemplated bailing out. I was tired and was thinking about all the other things I could get done if I stayed home.

But I went anyway.

In the parking lot, I bumped into someone that I had met only a handful of times, and we walked in together.

She turned to me and said “Oh, it’s so good that I ran into you, because I got a call yesterday from a magazine and I’m being featured in an article. They asked me for some professional photos - do you think you can help me?”

Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

She just happened to have an urgent need for my services. She knew plenty of other people who do what I do, but I was literally the first branding photographer that she ran into, so I got the job.

Not only did I take her branding photos, but I’ve done photos for her company every year since. And we even later joined forces for several collaborative business events. All because I was on that sidewalk next to her at the moment that she had her need.

But we can’t always be there in the right place at the right time, can we?

At least not in person.

But the truth is… we CAN be there at the right place at the right time, standing in front of a potential client at the moment they need our products and services.

It’s called good content marketing.

And if you want to be there, it has to be CONSISTENT.

Because you never know WHEN your ideal client will suddenly need you.

Just like getting up for early morning networking meetings, it takes time and commitment to develop relationships and get in front of both new and familiar audiences.
